Default ISO help building a comp - 08-09-2007, 07:13 AM

As the title says, I need some help building a computer. I'm basically a complete newb at this. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money since the game I've been playing most is WoW and the next comp game I'm really looking forward to is Spore.

I can't decide Intel or AMD. Amd is cheap right now, but intel seems like a much stronger proc.

I've been looking at the Antec Nine Hundred as the case I want but not sure if it's worth it or not. I would just like to use my old PS(bought this year/500w I believe) Hard drives and my old memory(2x512 not sure if memory is, in general, highly compatible) until I can get better.

Been looking at part and talking to friends recently but neither seem to help much at all. Like I said, not looking for the absolute best parts. Thanks in advance.

I just bought a new comp (PowerSpec from MicroCenter) with Intel core 2 duo.

If u overclock, amazing! Low voltage and runs cool and can run games very good.

My system also has 2 gigs of RAM and my system runs fast. Even with integrated graphics, can run WoW (I played the trial don't actually have the full game)

So my suggestion is you could wait a little longer to get better from AMD but the Core 2 Duo lineup is far the best I've seen. After switching from AMD to Intel, big difference.

I like to thank Frogman for making my awesome sig!

i gotta say i was a long time intel user......switched to an amd dual core.....64x capable.....2 gigs ram, runs SLi, and at only 2.4 ghz with the amd runs much faster and smoother then any of my 3 to 3.4 ghz intels.......with the overclock it is amazing.

Edit: If I was going to go AMD I would probably go with-
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail

But one of my friends has an AMD, says it blows and that I should go with-
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
Or maybe this one for a little more-
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

Here is the case I plan on purchasing. my friend has it and I like it, although he says it's kinda cramped in there-
Newegg.com - Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

you should go for a set up like mine, some parts are a little old but still very good imo can run anything with it, and it it isnt too costly wise.

Renagade, you sound like you came off of pentium 4's or D's, core2duos are a whole other league, and yes AMD has some fast procs, but if you get a intel proc equal to preformance of the AMD one, most likely the Intel will be cheaper. Plus core2duos OC like crazy and can stay on air.
