Default Customize Computer Help - 07-18-2007, 01:07 AM

I've have always been wanting to build a whole new computer to replace my old one but not sure which parts to get. My budget would mostly be around $1000.

I do have a few parts in mind that I might consider to buy.

Motherboard
$180
EVGA nForce 680i SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard (New T1 Version) / Audio / PCI Express / SLI / Dual Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID
$140
Asus P5N-E SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID

Processor
$200
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13GHz / 4MB Cache / 1066MHz FSB / Conroe / Dual-Core / OEM / Socket 775 / Processor

Graphics Card
$120
XFX GeForce 8600 GT XXX / 256MB DDR3 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / DL Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card

Ram (1gb or 2gb hmmm....)
$100
Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz E.P.P. Memory (2 x 1024)
$50
Corsair 1024MB DDR2 SODIMM

Heatsink
(Undecided)
Case
(Undecided)
Power Supply
(Undecided)
Hard Drive
(Undecided)

As for the other parts, I am still deciding.

Any Other Suggestions, Opinions, Feedback are welcome.

I suggest if you can easily pay for another 400 dollars. Since you said your budget is 1000, you should just buy a faster cpu. I like Amds alot better than Intel. I always had bad episodes with intel =X.

Asus motherboards are also a brand where I had nothing wrong with.

Well there are other parts that I still need to buy such as sound card, hard drive, Case, power supply and uhh that's it i think..

I debated between Intel and AMD but intel seems to have better cpus which I can upgrade in the future.

If you are ALOT more of a gamer than just surfing the internet. Amd will give u a bit more in gaming. Generally I do not spend to much on the Case power supply and hardrive. And poor a bit more onto Cpu. But it's just my opinion your build is fine.

Ok Thank you for your opinion, I'll take it into consideration on a better cpu but I'll probably be sticking to intel.

Proc is fine, Core 2 Duos get more speed for ANYTHING including gaming compared to AMD of equal price.

Everything looks good, get some nice hard drives and a cheap case, and at least 450watt possibly 500 watt PSU. Whatever your graphics card says, get either that or higher. Also, if you need a monitor save 200-300$ for a nice one. You can have the best computer but if you have a shitty monitor it all equals squat.

Hehehe, I could hook up my computer to my tv so the moniter issue isn't a problem. I'll look for some power supply, case, Hard Drive, etc... tomorrow but thanks for the comment.

I was looking at some AMD proc the other day because the prices dropped. And I was just wondering if anyone can explain why the retail($169.99) of the x2 6000+ is less than the manufacturer's price($229.00).

One of them is OEM. That means you do not get a fancy green box. Making it cheaper. =]

Generally you can buy OEM items to save a few bucks.

Price must have changed over night. When I posted that the OEM was $60 more than the retail. The price is still f---ed up though because the OEM is still the same price as the retail.

They also do not come with warranties or sometimes a heatsink/fan. Some will not even have the trusty manual.

Usually they only have a DOA return thingy, no 1 or 2 year warranty.

So far things look good. That CPU is ****ing fast enough, buy a aftermarket heatsink and fan so you can increase the clock speeds. However, really, don't get a 8600 GT. Definately go with atleast a 8800 GTS 320MB, but preferably a 640MB.

These brands and products are what you should be looking at.

Intel Core 2 Duo e4300 - e6600/q6600
ASUS motherboard
Enermax/Corsair or other high-end PSU
Lian-Li case
