Very easy. If you have Static ip, go to My Network places --> Network Connections --> right click *your connection* status --> Support --> Repair.

If you don't have a static ip, you won't be able to change it.

Errr dunno what Frater means with "static IP", but if your comp chooses the IP automatically when you start the PC just restart your PC or reset your router

uh... thats just dumb to restart ur pc
if u have DSL, just re-connect and the last digits of ur ip will be reset. I dont think u can change the other numbers since those are for ur isp or something like that

For most DSL modems, you are on a dynamic IP. Dynamic IP means you are assigned an IP address by your ISP, and it is not always the same. Turn your modem off for a few hours at least and the last digits should be able to change. The way an IP works, is as you reach each sector it narrows you down more and more (Country-Province\State-ISP, etc.).

For cable, call your internet service provider and tell them you have had an issue with a hacker and wish to change your IP. They do not do it normally, but with a story of a hacker you should be good.

If you use a static IP (an IP address that never changes normally), open the My Connections folder, right click on the connection you use and choose Status followed by Support and finally click the Repair button.

DHCP is usually assigned by a router. Enter your router settings and check out DHCP. If its a dynamic DHCP that is automatically assigned by the router, you can change the range of the last section of the IP. You can also have a static DHCP on the router for each computer.

I'm s urprised noone has posted anything about mac cloning for cable connections. Comcast uses your computers MAC address (yes, this applies to pc's) to assign an IP address, thus creating a "slightly static ip". If this MAC address were to change, so would your ip. So how do you change the MAC address for courier like Comcast? Simply route your connection through (dun dun dun) a router, and they will use the MAC address of that router. Sooo what good does this do? Well...

Most routers have a feature called MAC Cloning, which essentially changes the MAC address of the router so that it will look like an entirely different computer to your ISP courier (ie. comcast) and you get a new IP Address!

There you go... enjoy.

Forgot to mention how to change the MAC address without screwing up your connection completely...

Well some would say google it, but ehh try to only change the last 2 digits of the MAC address up or down 1 or 2. Don't just make up an entirely new address.. that could be bad.

Also, once you are finished, make sure you flush your router and modem (unplug the modem, plug it back in, wait for solid lights, plug in the router).

Lastly, to be entirely sure your not having anymore D2 restriction problems, clean out your SAVE > REALM folder in D2 directory. Delete the logs and cache files in the root directory as well.

I find it easier to simply call the cable ISP and ask for an IP change. I have had some bad experiances changing the MAC address...

Yes, changing the MAC address is a touchy thing but it can work wonders, the whole IP change process can be done in a matter of 45 seconds whereas you could be waiting on the line for a guy in India to forward you to the local ISP provider. Just learning how much to tweak things can save you a ton of time in the long run.

Oh and yes, wm_hunter; that's John 3:16.

Sorry, wasn't trying to flame you. I just think the average user would find it easier to phone up their ISP and talk to something then to go in and confuse themselves trying to change the MAC address. (A very small % of people know how to do these kinds of things on computers)

How to Change Router IP

Login To The router/switch/modem With Telnet hypertrm or WWW you will get a switch> or router>
type in enable
Then type in conf t
it will now look like this
router#(config)

now type in interface F0/0 for witch everport your going to be running out of there are normal 3 s0/0 s0/1 and f0/0 f=fastethernet s=serial there are normal 8 Sub network on fast enthernet

Now If you wont to Change The Fastether net IP type in This
Router#(config) interface f0/0 or inf f0/0
Router#(config-if)<---see how it changed your now in configuration mod to your f0/0 port

Now wont u wont to do is set the IP addrress
for that type in
ip IP ADDRESS MASK IP ADDRESS

but for you to know the mask ip you need to know the IP u wont ti to change to. IPs are calles so u can change them into binary like say your ip starts with 200.0.0.0 Thats a Class C so a default Sub-mask would be 255.255.255.0 A= 255.0.0.0 B=255.255.0.0 c=255.255.255.0 and c = 255.255.255.255
A= 0-127 ( 128 is not used bc its default)
b=129-199
c=200-230
d= 231-255

So If your IP is 200.165.254.0 Than its a class C so the command would be
router#(config-if) ip address 200.165.252.0 255.255.255.0
After you enter that type in this
router#(config-if)exec-timeout 0 0

Now the IP will never time out exit so u get this

router#

type in "copy start run"
this will save what u just config
type in show run
and u can see the changes you made

remember if u make any changes to your host (PC) go into network place right click on your connection goto properties click TCP/IP there you can change your DSN gateway default and IP Address you just need to config your router so it will all work together
