just thought i'd add this little tidbit of advice.

don't oc a pentium d 840 extreme edition to 4.36ghz unless you have some gg cooling. had it at that for kicks, melted part of the fan =\ heh thank *** i still got a replacement

Yeah.. The 8xx series was WAYWAYWAY too hot. I think they should be illegal to own.

heh ya..
its funny to look at the posts from the beginning of the thread, when the video cards were like 128 mbs and lcds were expensive as ****. now there are 768 mbs and 22inch lcds for cheap

I've found that the 8600GTS offers very good performance compared to the 8800GTX, not AS good but close. And its a shitload cheaper. But eh, brag rights i suppose.

Not even close at all.

[H]'s review of the BFGTech GeForce 8800 GTX and the XFX GeForce 8600 GTS XXX Edition compared...

The 8800 GTX is at 16xAA and a lot higher resolution, with absolutely ALL eye-candy maxed out and still significantly performs a hell of a lot better then the 8600 GTS.
