I might be wrong but I don't think you can mix. At least i have never heard of it being done.

i know more then the average comp user, but i'm no tech support, i believe 233 and 266 is the ram speed, i've heard you can mix them, but they will run at the lower speed of the two, so if you have 1 233 and 1 266, they will both run at 233, unless you take the 233 out, then the 266 will run at that speed

Well if that is the case is there a point to mixing? Unless they are running the same speeds... (off topic but o well sorry) (mpeck how did you get water cooling in your computer?)

im pretty sure its the bit width. like the speed cuz ddr means double data rate. so ddr it fast alone then 266 is faster than 233 so ya. i recomend RIMM its more expensive but its exetremely fast.

www.newegg.com go there and look around. Also, if your computer was premade by a company (like Dell) then go to their website and search up your computer and see what's compatible. Your computer should also have a solutions manual (usually it does) and it tells you what is allowable and what is not.

go download cpu-z (http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-125.zip) then run it, it will tell you what processor you have, the sockets (mine is 754), the core processor speed, the cache sizes, motherboard info, bios, type of memory/how much, you can even go to the tab called SPD and select a ram slot, it will tell you who made that ram stick, when it was made, its bandwidth, and its speed (and a few other things).

its a VERY helpful and awesome program if you dont know whats in ur computer......i took it to my school, and the ram sticks were from 1952........didnt think something so old could still run

I looked RIMM up, seems not many motherboards support it and I talked to a friend of mine who put it in his comp, and is screwed now because to increase his ram he would have to spend $1,000's to get a whole new motherboard, more RIMM ram, andeverything else he needed for it to work. Basically, you should probably stick with 1GB sticks of DDR. (and mpeck, i was asking how you have it installed)

That was $1,000's Alfzz, as in a couple thousand or so. 1GB DDR = 1024 (i think that number is exact) kilobytes of ddr ram. I have 512 MB of DDR in my computer, you can buy a stick of 512 DDR (what I have) and add it to your existing ram (if your motherboard supports a stick that big) or you may have to buy a stick of 256 DDR and add it to what you have. If you can open your computer up, and see your moherboard, it should tell you model and such info on it. If you then search online for it and find it, it should tell you full specs and max possible modification. Thus, if it says your motherboard will register a higher size stick than your current one, you can go ahead and buy the max that it will read. ex. If you find the specs and it says your motherboard will handle a total of 1024 MB of ram, then if you have 256, then your options go like this..either replace the 256 with a 1024 stick of DDR ram or add a stick of 512MB DDR to your 256, giving you a total ram of 768MB, I believe thats how it works. I helped my neighbor attempt to upgrade his ram, but he already had his maxed, this his motherboard capacity was 512, and when he tried to add another 512, it only read the total ram as 512, not 1028 as we thought it would.
