Wazzacky, many cultures try to retain their culture while living in America. It is a noble effort yes, but just from you admitting you can't speak your native tongues like the your older generations tells me that your family is well on its way to being Americanized. Soon the young girls will eventually marry non-Persian/Armenian men and lose their last names and their children will be 1/2 your descent. I'm not insulting your family, it's just that over generations most families lose their "true" culture and become "normal Americans" with a "normal" household, traditions, family etc.
oh yes i do agree, I can see it with my little niece and nephew, They however know more armenian and persian than i do :O. I still am going to try to keep my culture as going as far as i can.
Keeping your cultural know how is important.Never forget who you are and what MADE you the person you are.
Having SAID that....being in another country you make your home?This means embracing that home,and learning that place.
It is NOT about forgetting your culture,roots,traditions,language.
It is about bringing all that richness with you and sharing it with others,
That is why we are known as "The melting ***" So many diverse people that are "Americanized" Yet..they do not forget where they originated.
