but does a belief in anything necessarily imply that you belong to a religion?
ie: nothing?

No, but a belief is an unproven theory. Religions are ussualy based on such theories. We won't know which ones are right until substantial proof is uncovered.

if beliefs are the bases of religion, then why is atheism necessarily a religion?

Because they hold a belief that deities do not exsist.

but isnt the usual requirement for a religion some sort of deity? i have heard some people claim that atheism is a religion because atheists consider themselves to be god, but it sounds like an attempt to win through obscure technicalities rather than a legitimate arguement. for one, i would consider myself an atheist but it has never occured to me that i may be god

I am not some people. I have never claimed that. Some people do worship money or themselves. I guess they can see that as a diety.

Where is this going? Not all beliefs are religious. I said that religions are based and built upon beliefs.

To be honost, I don't know. I posted that because it doesn't make sense for someone to say they believe in nothing, when nothing is something. So, basicly......I think you agreed with me. Or did you? **** I'm confussed.

well, i said that "believing in nothing is still believing in something" is bullshit then then you said that you posted that statement because it was contradicting. so i guess you ended up agreeing with me on post #430
i think we need some definition here. it's not so much that some people believe in an absolute absence of deities. they just could care less and hold no beliefs, which when i hrased it. might have sounded like they had a strong belief in a lack of deities
that's the difference. most people who claim to be atheists dont hold any beliefs about religion. thus you can't really say that they hold beliefs like a christian or muslim would. however, i would agree that people with strong beliefs in a lack of a god could possibly be considered somewhat similar to christians or muslims.
anyway, i think we were both somewhat right cause we were arguing about different things

Lol, lets just call it defined then. We're both right. It was fun though, we should both be right and argue about something again sometime. Lol, you free Tuesday?

but ifyou believe in god and jesus i suggest forgoing religion untill after u have read the bible.

in fact if you have read the bible and understand it u can see its says catholism is not a religion of god but a seat of power for satan. now , of course, i suspect hardly any1 to believe me but just read the bible for urself. i canot in full explain it but it is true and i believe it. i should point out however i belong to now religion, but if i did join a religion id probly be a protesant (or w/e).

and for bee that believe that some1 just sat down and wrote the bible and that its fake...understand that, that would be inpossible because the bible was written in the course of uhundreds of years
How do you know religion was not made by the government to control the populus and get the rulers way, ie. Catholisism in which the midle ages the popes would excomunicate you (deny you salvation) if you bought something they didnt like or didnt folow the religion, also if Christianity is the truth, how come the main idea of the afterlife that they talk about is not mentioned once in the text, its was originated by a priest whose daughter supposedly had a vision

I am agnostic. I don't really feel the need for religion myself. The truth is in my opinion Religion was used to group the masses who were scared of all the unknowns that the world had to offer. I think that it is way too outdated. On top of that religion is so centered around church these days that if you don't go to church, you aren't viewed as religious, which contradicts everything that most religions are about.
I do not fault others who are religious, I just don't really care for the whole thing myself.
