Follow this you'll be on your way to kickassery.

Skills

20 into Charged Bolt
20 into Lightning
20 into Chain Lightning
20 into Lightning Mastery
20 into Nova

1 into Telekinesis
1 into Static Field
1 into Teleport
1 into Warmth

Rest into Thunderstorm

Energy shield is a waste. End of story.

Stats

Dex: None
Energy: None
Strength: 90-100 (Enough for Gear)
Vitality: As many as you can spare

Gear

Helm: Griffons or Shako with 5/5 light facet.
Weapon A: 20% Light, +3 Skills Eschuta's
Shield A: Perfect Spirit Monarch
Weapon B: Call to Arms (+6 to BO is always nice)
Weapon B: Any shield that gives +1 or +2 to skills
Armor: Perfect CoH Archon Plate
Gloves: Magefists (the fcr is nice)
Boots: Eth Sandstorm Treks
Amulet: +3 to sorc light skills
Rings: 2x SOJs

Charms: Annhilus & Sorc Torch, 9 Light Skill GCs

With all this stuff you'll have 48 in every maxed skill and your lightning does over 70k.

Merc

Weapon: Eth Infinity
Armor: Eth Fort
Helm: Suggestions?

Leveling

Get a glitch rush to hell and chaos levels 1-70, then Baal. :)

EDIT - Boots should be Eth Treks...not travs

Seeing as it's Lightning the damage will be something around 6-70,000 so having that much just gives a better chance of doing more.

I thought lightning cast rate was not based on fcr? or is that just chain lightning? I read somewhere (and I don't have time to go look) that it was based on weapon and attach speed.

look dude, fast cast rate is how fast you can cast your skill then reset to normal and then cast that same skill again, fast attack speed is how fast you swing your weapon, skills like lightning, poison nova, cold nova all come out the same speed no matter what ur fcr is, its just how fast you can get them out there and do it again, there is a whole website on this, goto diabloii.net and goto the arreat summit thing and look it up

70k isnt possible and you should go 200 fcr instead of pure dmg. With a 200 fcr setup you can do 40k+ which is more then enough to kill any character.

Lit sorc's can be the best. Lit sorc's can suck ass. Any char can be good,(well besides a few builds) Any char can suck ass.

If you are going for scads of damage you use lots of skill points, if you have just one point in ES one hit = no mana
I accidentially did that and learned that ES is useless unless you plan on investing plenty of points into telekenisis for absorb bonus.

And I also agree with getting more FCR as opposed to damage. This way you can just keep the bolts coming faster and faster

Also, why not one point into a coldskill armor on this build?

Lightning and chain lightning both go under different fcr break points. They are slower than skills like Fireball, Ice Blast and Charged Bolt.

Travs is not a bad choice instead of eth treks although you can easily use a topazd shako instead of griffons and have a nice medley of dmg and mf to find stuff. Just a question how much do griffons cost east ladder sc i know the good ones are muy expensive.
