PaladinThe Paladin is the character that is perhaps more suitable to the multi-player game. But make no mistake; he is still capable of taking on the greatest of battles. Many of his aura powers can affect more than one player so he should always be part of a group.
How to bulid a good Zeal/Smite pally? - Posted: 12-28-2005
Does anyone know how to make a good PvM zeal/smate pally i need to know every thing like what item do i use how much to put into strength and dexterdy all that stuff.
o yea is grief or Botd better for this kind of pally?
Wow, your name says it all... Okay I am improvising, so correct me.
100ish STR or enough needed to wear eqs
110ish dex to accieve max block
All the rest into Vit because energy is useless to you
Skills
Max out zeal, fanaticism, smite, holy shield
Put 10ish into sacrifice, if your going to 99, max it out
Eqs
CoA,Shako,Guilliams Face (set item)
Greif, its always better than ebotdz, or ebotdz
A good exile, or hoz
CoH, or Enigma, or Stone if really poor
Draculs Grasp
Goreriders
Verdungos
1 angelic, one raven frost, one angelic amulet
fortitude is useless to a smiter. the ed won't help a smiter's damage. use enigma or coh. the ar from angelics is also useless to a smiter. but, if your gonna use zeal then you would need angelics. o, and a hoz is useless to a smiter too. you need a vortex exile. and if your poor, try to get a rare vortex. vortex shields have the best smite damage. hoz's damage is super low compared to a vortex. even if the hoz is uped.
Quadzilla.. fortitude does work for a smiter, and also I posted use a good exile, or hoz, I also posted use angelics. So please read carefully, and stop trying to correct things.
i ed'd items don't work with smiters. do this, go find a pally shield with ed on it. then find the same pally shield w/o the ed on it. your damage will be the same. and btw ar isn't required for smiters. check bnet website, written in plain text.
Effect: Shield bash that does damage and knock back.
Smite always hits a target in range, so Attack Rating does not matter when using this skill.
Smite does not work with Life/Mana % Steal.
Smite is a weapon skill and thus is affected by Attack Speed (e.g. 'Fanaticism') and is not affected by Cast Rate (e.g. -of the Apprentice). Smite works with any "X% Chance to cast level Y (spell) upon striking ability on your weapon.
Smite does not receive added damage vs. undead with the Sanctuary aura.
The Fire/Cold/Lightning damage added to attacks with the Holy-Fire, Holy-Freeze, and Holy-Shock auras do not add onto Smite damage.
Smite can steal life with life tap cursed on target.
Smite can also deal crushing blow and open wounds damage, but not deadly strike and elemental damages.
Quadzilla2win, I don't know where you are getting your info (no, B.net never mentioned ED). Off-weapon enhanced damage works with Smite. It's due to a display error that it does not show up on the attribute window.

arcanesupremacy do you have a credited source for your info? if you do, i would like to view the link. i'm goin by what ppl have told me. about the grief, it made since to that it would work with a smiter. since it does NV damage with barbs, zealers, etc. So, i started asking if it worked with a smiter, every single person that i asked said it didn't. that's what i;m going by here. btw i never said bnet mentioned ED. the above is explaining that angelics are useless to a smiter.

Here is the proof you requested...

Since my V/T is built to use Enigma, he was unable to equip Fortitude. Because of this, I had to use my Zealot, Stoutwood for this test. Stout, with 1 hard point in Smite and a comparatively low level Fanaticism, required a +399 Grief to boost his damage so that a difference would be recognizable. I removed all items that could skew the results, such as items with Crushing Blow and Open Wounds. The-Professor was unavailable for this test, so I enlisted the aid of my friend Oakenshaft, or Mr. J as he is known on these forums.
Mr. J removed all +life replenish gear from his character, and also made sure to get 50% DR for the ease of calculations. I then proceeded to Smite him 5 times with the Fortitude equipped, and 5 times without. We subtracted his remaining life after getting Smited from his life beforehand to get the total damage applied.
If you are going for PvM should grab a few 1 point wonders. Redemption, Salvation, and Cleansing to remove pesky poison from the second wave in the Throne of Destruction.
