Right now my setup is this :

Washburn Dime V w/ Bill Lawrence LX-500XL into a Crybaby, into a Peavey 5150, into a Laney 4x12 with Celestions.

Upgrades will be a Maxon Overdrive, Boss NS-2 or ISP Decimator and Celestion V30's for my cab.

Just a few tone improvements. Pics to come.

I can tell your tone isn't any better. Digital POD garbage into tubes? Please.

yes because i have recording capabilities outside of a pod. Please don't talk about tone when you're using a pos washburn

Using the Behinger as a tuner right now.

Alright, Vai.

I take it you're using stock pickups in your guitar, right? I wouldn't dare downtalk ANY guitars tone when it has something as raw as a Bill Lawrence L500-XL, Super Distortion, X2N, Dimebucker or whatever.

I also don't understand how you think even that's a viable comeback to you running DIGITAL GARBAGE into a pure high gain tube head. I've played the 6505+. It's a great amp. You're making it bad and embarassing s everywhere by plugging a POD of all things into it.

GFG.

yes because i said i use it in practices and shows. i use it for recording and it is capable of getting a decent tone even though it is digital. maybe you've never used a pod and are just assuming but whatever

For shows you should be using just the gain of your head... when you put your POD into your head, you're getting mud; not tone.

The 6505 is extremely capable of getting tone up there. Turn up your mids and presence to cut through during live shows and during recording. I have used a POD as I have owned one.

Try this -

Replace pickups in guitar with high-output like X2N or Dimebucker.
Plug guitar directly into head.
Bass 6, Mids 8, High 5-7
Presence to 9 or 10
Resonance to 6-8
Pre gain to 6
Post gain to 1 for bedroom levels, to 6-8 for live.

That's tone.

My guitar is a crappy Les Paul copy made by Aria...it's just horrible, I really need to get a new guitar when I have enough money. My amp is a Mark IV by Mesa Boogie. I'm using the normal 0.88 picks from Dunlop (the green ones).

your dumb, any guitar can sound good by changing out these new things called "pickups"

The only other thing wrong with a cheap guitar is the wood that is used to make it and the wiring in it.

But yeah pickups affect ur guitar alot there fore u could put 2 good pickups in a squier bullet and make it sound good.

I don't use a POD for live or jams with the band it is used for personal recording, the pod tone / effects are generally disabled unless i need a certain effect other wise it's just used for the usb input to record.

mushroom what the **** are you talking about

I think you're dumb; EVH is gonna be EVH even if he's on a Korean Squier Stratocaster with stock pickups going through a Peavey Rage 15watt amp.

The player makes the music and most of the sound, gear only exemplifies this

gear means everything as far as tone. You could put Yngwie Malmsteen on a stock samick along with a fender frontman and his tone will still sound like shit. I think your mixing up playing ablility with tone.

Tone is one thing; sound and style, not to mention personality is another. I've been over this on Pantera Chat, Zakk's boards (worldwide, .net, and .com for you Wylde fans) millions of times. We'll just agree to disagree.. but if Yngwie did hop on that setup, as soon as he started you'd go "Hot Damn! Tone may be slightly weak but that damn sure is Yngwie."

That's what I was trying to convey. Once people get this they usually agree.

No way dude, it's beyond skill. I consider myself an intermediate player (meaning, i'm satisified but I know I have MUCH MUCH more to learn) and I can whip out my own sounds on any setup. The magic is in your hands, head, and soul.. not in some fancy gear.
