Thats what i was saying. no one is "The Best". And by the way Rusty Cooley is really good. But, in the video clips in your post he is playing in 1/64 time. Slash has played in 1/76 time. I know this since ive been playing for a long time and i can play in 1/64 time for a few minutes. 1/76 time is about 6 tabs per second more. And in Paradise city for about 15 seconds slash picks it up too 1/82 time. But fast is not all that matters, so we cant say someone is best just because they can play 14 notes a second.
ps. The cleanness of the sound depends on the settings of the distortion knobs on the guitar, amp settings and if they are useing a effects peddle or not. All "Good" guitars play clean, i dont even bust frets at 1/64 time.
Slash never hits the speed Rusty does on some of his arpeggios in Paradise City.
DIstortion does distort accuracy, but when you're accurate to begin with it doesn't matter.
Good guitar players play only clean? Clean does nothing but reduces the high-end output and cuts back on feedback. With a good overdrive pedal, say the SD-3 or Tube Screamer.. on clean settings to begin with, that overdrive makes your chops even more obvious.
For some reason I think you're blowing smoke, but that's just me talking. Check out "Colma" by Buckethead and you'll understand his thinking in saying that sometimes it takes a million notes to say one thing, but sometimes it only takes one.

peace.
I am not just blowing smoke. I have been playing for a long time and just know time scales by hart. And since neither of us are going to back down. Its kinda pointless argue. But i respect your opinion and i will say that Rusty is really good. I should make a thread that you post a video of you playing guitar and see who is the best on the site. Then we can have a debate .
EDIT: Do you play? For a minute there i though you were blowing smoke, but since you know some high-end peddles and how cleanness is made up of mostly high frequency buzz, hopefully your not one of those noobs who look shit up on google to sound smart. Anyway, I'm starting to like Rustys stuff, lol.

i like rusty but there's a point a s get in there music where there playing is just too fast. he has reached taht point. he is still really good and writes awesome music but i couldn't listen to that everyday like i do some of becker's stuff or dime
Slash can't shred. This is just like all the arguements on the shred forum on ultimate-guitar "ZOMGZ SLASH 3122 NPS PARADISE CITY!!11!!!!"
I have been a part of that site for a long time and on the contrary people respect Slash and most see him as one of the best of our time. Cheak out the forum "How good is slash?" And you'll see what i mean. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum...ighlight=Slash
Additional Comment:
Ooh, im not a big Ibanez fan, but dam, all that gold hardware and fret inlays and even the whammy bar in gold... And gold on white in my opinion is gorgeous. *drools*

Well theres many definitions of shreding. Mine is just great playing. idk what other peoples are. I probably am wrong in my definition of it, so your most likely right. but either way you look at it slash is very good and most people agree. But this thread is almsot completely about your opinion, so its kinda pointless to try to convince someone that one person is better then another. So you have yours i have mine and we're done.
Sweet, you own one? do post i wana see it, ill post my Les paul when i get my camra working. Its kinda old, i have 500$ for a new guitar so far. Really hard to chose one.

i agree slash is a great but i don't consider him a shredder in terms of players like malmsteen vai becker gilbert or cooley he is still skilled though.
yeah i own a ibanez jem7v. i got it cheap (1100ish) because it was used and has a minor scratch on the back. plus i'm a regular at guitar center so i get mad discounts. yeah whenever i get batteries i'll be sure to post it.

I have played on and off since I was around 8 years old. I'm 20 now. Mostly off until I was 15 or 16, and almost always on since then. I do, like right now, take a total break for up to two or three months and do nothing but play my scales and exercises an hour every two days. For me, it helps reduce the repetitiveness of playing. After a 3 month break or so, i'm itching to get out and play. I've done this four times that I can remember. I just need it every now and then.
The problem with me right now is, epsecially with the situation explained above, is I haven't been in a steady band in over 2 years. I have been looking into several speed metal bands and one particular jam band(Allman Brother/Mule cover band actually). I haven't did anything serious regarding these guys.
And as far as a video of me playing, the best I can do is a webcam. I don't own a camera w/ videos other than a really oldschool ghetto VHS video recorder. I will use my cam though, or maybe buy a cheaper video camcorder in a few months
And all I was saying in ghetto lingo (i'm not a tech whiz obviously) is that gain/distortion, especially in huge amounts like I use sometimes, does hide accuracy. It's constantly screaming and feeding back. Clean reduces, if not eliminates, all this high end garbage. It greatly lowers the overall edge and leaves you with just straight picking. That's all I know to explain it. I was going on what I had read a few years ago in Guitar One I think explaining the technical differences in gain and clean.
Well if you're looking for skill on a technical level, no one has or probably ever will have a greater knowledge or skill with a guitar than Jason Becker. He wrote things at twelve no one but Paul Gilbert or Rusty Cooley could probably pull off today. Not to mention he could play with added sweeping flair one of the hardest pieces of music created for solo, "Paganini's Fifth Caprice".
Now, if your going to say, "Man **** you, Rusty cooley or Douche McDouche can play way faster" You have to stop and think about one thing. Theres a point in music speed or the speed of sounds in general where the human ear can no longer follow. Rusty Cooley for instance commonly oversteps this boundary and plays like a machine, and its easy to tell he couldnt give a flying **** about the music he writes, just that its fast seems to be enoguh for him.
If you happen to be looking for anything beyond skill as an indicator of who would be classified as, "The One", then that really all comes down to personal taste.
not only is becker a technical guitar *** he composes beautiful music. each song is unique and beautiful, he is one player that knows how to use his technical abilities (speed, ect) in his music and have it fit.
