It's possible to play in any resolution, but requires serious modding of D2 files. It's not something that can be switched back and forth between in like ten seconds. As you can see from the pic you posted, he's modded the resolution, but did not change the user interface to function appropriately in that resolution. I'd also imagine that playing on b.net in such a high resolution woule be considered a violation. Wouldn't it increase tele range, etc?

I'm positive that I can modify the default interface to function in 1280x1024 but I'm having trouble getting the game in 1280x1024. If someone hooks me up with the information on the resolution fix, I will hook you up with a functional interface at that resolution.

Modding the inventory can be done by extracting mpq's, which is ez mode just time consuming. I couldn't find any resolution definitions in the mpq's so I'm assuming it's in the .dll's, probably d2gfx.dll.

I don't know how to find the location of the resolution in the .dll, or if it's even there. I've got mpq editing down fairly well but still new to .dll editing. When I disassemble d2gfx.dll there's ton of lines but I don't know how to associate a line with its function. Like I said, still new to the whole thing. If someone can give me a little help to get the game in 1280x1024, I'd be willing to put in the time to code the interface to properly work in that resolution, and then release it for everyone to use.

wait.. what about the black near the upper left hand corner? that usally happens when you lag soo bad that it desynches (i think thats what you call it) and you cant move anymore. why is that showing up in here? the rest of the town should be visible right? im kinda not buying the screen shot. if someone actually did this, then ok, im wrong. but why shoot for something this high when 1024*768 should be more fiesable?

After reading this post it seems like it requires disassembly of d2gdi.dll and editing a few values.

I can fix the offsets for potions, and I imagine inventory, to line up properly with the background UI images.

The problem is that when I disassemble d2dgi.dll I've got tons of values and I don't know what the values are associated with.

1) What program do you guys use to disassemble?
2) How do I match a value with its function?

i think that your best bet would be to ask a computer forum... b/c i doubt anyone here knows how to do what your trying to do... anyways, best of luck to ya...
oh and about breaking blizzard's end user aggrement.. sure, it may give us an unfair advantage teleing farther.. but i dont think that is too big of a deal.. i mean they should have upgraded the resolution a long time ago. lol
also, what about those poor souls still stuck using 640*480?

I would love to help, but sadly I don't do much modding myself. I would recommend checking a different forum, BZS is good but a forum like EoN really has active members that actually make the hacks, while BZS just has a community of people that help others with the hacks made, write guides, etc.

netter had an old hack that increased the resolution even beyond 1280. but it doesnt work anymore and is detectable i think.
and he doesnt make hacks for d2 anymore cuz they were gonna sue him, sucks cuz till now hes the only person ive ever seen do this

Netter's code was a modificaition of d2gdi.dll, it was called EasyView, it displayed in 1300x733. Apparently this resolution is coded into D2, it just needs to be switched on. This resolution is a bit weird though, very wide.

People with d2jsp have gotten the game in 1280x1024, but it's a private mod and I don't know the people who know the people...

Someone told me 1280x1024 was possible with RA 3.0, nobody will post it on EON since Rhin (who made it) doesn't want it public. If anybody has RA and wants to PM it to me, feel free. I heard its not safe on b.net anyway, but it might give me insight to the resolution problem.
