My philosophy when it came to making runewords was to use the best material possible. Think of it like getting leather seats and a new radio for a 1989 car. Just wait until you can get the best possible shield so you can have the highest resale value.

If it was me I definitely won't. I keep in mind of chance to block and strength requirements with shields. Sacred Targe has the highest block rate with lowest minimum strength. Your exile would also be way less valuable because of the extremely low resistance. Its a nice shield with squarely 15 resistance though.

Hmm, wasn't +45 res max on a shield (or am I talking bollocks)? In that case, it would definately not be worth it, because enchanced dura and def are pretty useless. Afaik, if your shield didn't have +res, some people used enhanced damage mods, but cannot remember exact figures.

45 all res is possible on a pally shield base. Also 65 or 66 % enhanced damage and 110 or 111 attack rating is possible.

Very rare to see those on an Exile I believe. Or maybe I'm speaking bollocks too. X_X
