Default Rain on a sandy day` - 06-06-2007, 04:34 AM

Today I decided to sand the wood I cut yesterday. My plan was to sand the cut pieces & then spraypaint them. But NOOOOOOOOOOOO the rain decided to fall. Thus, I had an opportunity to do some work inside, which includes building the light fixture for the blacklight which will illuminate the marquee, & creating a BEZEL to emphasize the monitor display:

Blacklight complete!!!

I created a light, while my son decided to BECOME A LIGHT!

Bezel done!

Logan was prepared for a fun day of building an arcade:

I forgot to cut notches in the rear doorpiece to make sure that the heat from the computer can escape:

My wife Nina even decided to help:

It was hot out today:

I managed to sand, paint, & put a handle on the door as well:

But in mid-sanding of the first sidepiece, I had to put everything inside because it started raining. F*cking NW Florida. F*cking "Emerald Coast"..

The computer arrived just in time yesterday though. I installed the emulators & everything seems to be working great, except that KI is a bit slow & the N64 emulator as well.

The PSOne emulator worked a bit too well.... It was flying like a million miles per hour through SOTN, so I'll have to tweak it out, as well as the N64 Emu. I tried U64 instead of MAME to run KI, with more positive results. The only things I hate about the U64 Emu are:

1.) The sound is uber-glitchy.
2.) It WAS a b*tch and a half to set up.
3.) The cutscenes are super-fast (but this actually is kinda cool too)

I don't think that by upgrading my CPU chip to a faster one and adding more RAM will really help (1.6GHz with 512MB RAM), although it COULD be possible. The limitation, I figure, is bus speed. Of course I'd love to have an additional 512MB or RAM, and a 3GHz+ chip in there, but I don't feel like pouring more $ into it. (I haven't even put the thing completely together yet!) But I know that it will be real sweet real soon! (I also wish I had a 21" flatscreen monitor to throw in there too LOL)

F*ck it, I bought some more RAM. I bought a 2GHz processor too.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE UGLY:

I got my RAM chip, but discovered that ECC & non-ECC do not mix. I had to order another RAM chip.

I JUST got the processor today, but it's RAINING once again! Damn it. The good news is that I have silicone paste & I can install it after work today. I hope it works!

The cabinet is currently fully built at this time, I just need to put the logos on with poster tape. It would have been completed last night, but my son decided to make the poster tape I had "mysteriously vanish".

It got too dark to keep taking pictures as I soloed the completion of the project, but I have a lot of them from yesterday:

Putting the cabinet together:

Meet Travis:

Building a screen so the sound can get out:

Installed support brackets:

Nina comes to bring food to us famished guys:

Things are looking good!

Logan wants to help:

More help is required; Nina gets involved:

Meanwhile, Logan goes for a cruise:

Excitement in the making:

I'll get some pics of the finished project when I get the chance, if its not still raining later...

Finished! CPU didn't work, but that's ok, because I found out the one I had in there was actually a 2GHz chip like the incompatible one I installed! Yeay. Waiting for an additional 512MB NON-ECC RAM, but it works now anyways, with the exception of KI being a little slow in MAME. Ultra64 emulator works great (a little too great = fast), with the exception of some "crackly" sound for some Combo hits. Anyways, on with the final pics...

You can't have an arcade without stools...

A look at the device BEFORE playing..

I got around to putting the logos on the sides today:

The blacklight fixture I built earlier didn't position correctly; I bought a new one:

The difference is night & day:

My favorite arcade game:

MODS: PLEASE STICKY MY POST! If any of you "entrepeneurs" out there want advice, you know where to go! I made my dream come true!

Where & HOW do I do that!? BTW I got that 512MB RAM today & installed it; it doesn't improve anything all that much, but hey, more is better! It might help "GTA VICE CITY" for PC when I get it next week! I also swapped out the keyboard for a glow-in-the-dark one that rules! I should take a picture of it, but I'm busy d/l'ing games & copying+pasting old-ass Game Genie codes for 'em (cheaters ALWAYS win!). So yeah, if you know where I can link this, lemme know. c u r s e d g a m e AT y a h o o . Com

I was thinking about doing that too. I will be getting this soon too. I looked at "blaclightpostersdotcom" or something and some other posters website like "allpostersdotcom" and I really couldn't decide on anything that would "enhance" the room. I was thinking about uploading a gameplay video, but I'm a real lazy bastard when it comes to stuff like that. (It seems like a lot of work - LOL) So, does anyone know some good ROMS for:

NES
GENESIS/MEGADRIVE
SNES
TGFX/SUPER CD-ROM
MAME
N64
PSX
GBA

that I might enjoy? email me (see previous post for email address)

*SIDENOTE* I just logged into USWEST SCL LAD for the first time since I built the arcade (it's been a while since F*CK IT I GIVE UP) and I got lagged to c/i within a minute, then FTJ on the next game. No wonder why I "quit")

Here's a pic of the difference between lights on & off with the new keyboard. Notice how I removed the bezel from the monitor & went with a piece of black posterboard BEHIND the monitor, for a better night-effect:

I'll post a picture when I get that light-up mouse too.

Decided I'm going to make one, no I won't be taking pictures, I'm going to build a 3.3 ghz dual processor, 1024 RAM, 512 video card, I'll use generic controllers that extend from the machine and stay strong with a cable connection.
A touch screen. (so I can play master of orion 3 the way it was meant to be played)
I'll use macross so I can play even computer games through the machine and you gave me a sweet idea so I'm going place a cd player from a car into the area above the monitor and add a toggle switch on the side of the machine to jump from game sounds to the cd player's sounds.
I've built well over 100 computers so this won't be a difficult task for me, but for the record your idea rules and you should go into buisness selling these, with that being said, you had better copywrite it before someone beats you to it.
Wish me luck!

Man that is freaking sweet! I've inspired someone! Now that the ladder is going to end in like 3-4 days, you might as well stop playing D2 for a while & LIVE YOUR LIFE like some dude said earlier, and build some cool stuff like this. I've installed the light-up mouse and it is FREAKING SWEET! I'm going to post a picture when I get the chance. I was thinking of using those LED-lit PS2 controllers from Gamestop, but I:

1.) Like the feel of the "authentic" PS2 controller better.
2.) Can't find the ***damn things. (Moved from Hawaii to Florida)

Oh yeah, I still need to post a video of me playing!
