Bashiok has described the way the Alt key works in Diablo III in terms of showing items!

I actually didn't like it at first, I liked the on/off state of pressing or not pressing Alt, but with the names showing immediately after drop and having a sort of "grace period" after just tapping Alt, it's really grown on me and is a lot more intuitive. It's a lot easier to see what just dropped quickly and decide if you care, and it isn't necessary to constantly hold down Alt while scavenging after a large fight.

I still want to see -nopickup return but I haven't really asked anyone what the possibility of that is. I don't think it would work well with the current system, so options may have to be a possibility.

	I'm waiting for them to make it so I never lag out as soon as the items drop and miss out on everything. Maybe if they programmed the items to drop like 5 seconds after the boss does it little "I've been killed" dance, then less people would lag out and miss the items. 	I don't like the fact that IF you press alt the items show for another 5 seconds, I think it would be better if the item name stay there. But showing the name when it drops is cool and all.

I think that is a personal problem....

and i personally love the idea of the alt key im one of the people who ends up holding alt for MOST of my playing but never misses a drop lol

	I like how it will show after dropping but I always thought there should be a toggle key, you can hit alt and it shows, hit alt again and it hides, so you can run around pick up the stuff you want hit alt and kill some more.
