On January 23, 2008 (Australian time), Ledger's parents and sister—who learned of his death from a radio broadcast—appeared outside Ledger's mother's house in Applecross, a riverside Perth suburb, and read a short statement to the media:

We, Heath's family, confirm the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda, who was found in a peaceful sleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30pm [New York Time]. We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their kind wishes at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life, but few had the pleasure to truly know him. He was a down-to-earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and unselfish individual who was an extreme inspiration to many. Please now respect our family's need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.

In reaction to his death, former partner Michelle Williams was reported as saying that she was "devastated" at the loss and had boarded a plane to New York City. Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd released a statement saying, "It was with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Heath Ledger... It is tragic that we have lost one of our nation's finest actors in the prime of his life."

Tragic news eh? Some of you may start saying how it affects you in no way and are going to start being ghoulish assholes, no doubt.

Yeh, it is certainly sad to see such a great actor pass away. I'm in the category of one of those that aren't like overwhelmingly affected by this tragedy, but who still believe it was a shame to see this promising actor die too young.

I believe I read he had just finished shooting the role of the Joker in a new Batman movie, the "Dark Knight" or something like that, which will be a sequel to the new prequel one.

I actually first learned about it via Youtube from many of the people I know announcing it. Sad day for the acting community; some of my favorite movies he acted in were actually "A Knights Tale" and "The Patriot" because I havn't seen "Brokeback Mountain" (I'm more for action than what this film might offer for me). RIP Heath Ledger, and respects to family + friends.

I was bummed to hear this, kind of ruined my day when I originally heard it yesterday, it always sucks to see anyone die like that. I think he was a great actor and it's a shame he wont finish that Terry Gilliam movie he was shooting.

Here is something to think about. When that lady found heath, she called mary k before anyone else......that strike anyone as odd. They was getting high n shit, he croaked, sleeping pills planted. GG evil evil mary k. and wtf is with rich ppl not knowing how to do drugs in moderation. i know my limits, and im almost broke rofls. SUX THAT HE DIED THO =/ R.I.P. brotha

Maybe someone saw "brokeback" thinking it was a "good ol fashioned western" and exacted their revenge on Heath for having to see that.

I honestly dont think it was sleeping pills. But lets wait for the results to come back.

There is no evidence that supports any sort of other drug use, the rolled up bill was clean. if he did indeed kill himself, I have no sympathy.
then again, the current evidence ways HEAVILY against it.

This in no way detracts from the tragedy of his death, however, he wouldn't simply kill himself to proove a point in his arguement that he "Didn't care about death and thought it as a positive thing" he may have said that he lived for his kid and thus the reason death meant little to himself, but then again he wasn't some inbred deadbeat **** who would kill his daughter over her knocking over his XBOX (a story i heard today, which i will be posting later)

ROFLS, are u f*cking serious? I bet it wasnt even a 360 =/ that guy needs to get castrated and locked in solitary for a loooooong time. But, back to the drug use, you never know what happens behind closed doors. Everything, until proved otherwise, is simply speculation. And of course the media blows shit WAY outa proportion, we all know that.... But im with u in the suicide bit, ya i dont know him, but life certainly could have been harder than how he had it. I stuggle to pay the bills sometimes =/. But u make like what u make it in the end. I firmly believe that. And for the record, in the end, who gives a f*ck? its sad yea, but he is no differant from me and u, just famous because he acted. A human being none-the-less. Still like i said before, R.I.P.

360 or not, thats still really really f*cked up. Thats not a good enough reason ( well there isnt any) to take another persons life, let alone ur child. =/

My thoughts exactly, i said on the forum post i found it on that the offending party deserved to die. Anyway, this is quite offtopic, I'll post up the link and create a thread about it if you want to discuss further.
