View Full Version : Sports! pepereina1 08-22-2008, 04:26 PM So what sports do you guys play, if any??? And to what level???
I myself play football(soccer) for my college and have played since the age of 6 competitively!
I play loads of tennis, playing for my local club. When I was younger I was in and around the provincial squad, never made it.
Also used to play hurling which is officially the best sport ever :D KazeCloud 08-23-2008, 12:34 AM iI played football starting as a right defensive tackle during my freshmen year. My parents never wanted me to play so I only got to play one year because they're always afraid I'll get hurt. I didn't even get to play wrestling.
I now play badminton as a varsity #2 single player. Second best to this guy name Viet who played since he was a kid. Its a very competitive and difficult sport contraire to many beliefs. My coach has never played badminton so I always post videos of myself and ask questions about perfecting my techniques. I'm now half coach of the team. Viet knows nothing about coaching and I believe I know more than him, but he's always varsity #1 and gets to talk. I'm really trying to gain supremecy this year and take him out of his spot and do good in my league games. None at the mo...
But it used to be horses, netball, tennis, basketball, softball for two years... Nethran 08-23-2008, 02:14 AM In high school I did football(soccer), cross country, and track and field. I never made varsity on football, but I only played my freshman and sophomore years, and varsity was all juniors and seniors. Cross country and track I made varsity, but I wish I'd tried harder.. It sucks not having the opportunity to do that kind of stuff anymore. hellsing293 08-24-2008, 10:31 PM I used to run track(high school) until I got injured and was out for a few weeks. The season ended and I didn't want to have to get back into shape again (you get out of running shape QUICKLY).
Basketball (town). I've played for years and I'm pretty good at it (kind of tall for my age).
Tennis (High school). I've taken lessons when I was younger and now that I can drive I can finally try out for the team and play for the school. Nethran 08-25-2008, 03:09 AM Soccer is not football.
We're the only country that calls it Soccer, 'cept maybe Canada. American Football sucks. :P Never liked it, never will. I watch the Superbowl, but only for the commercials. First, for living in America and not liking football, you get no opinion.
Second, this isnt up for discussion, soccer is not football, period.
Third, football is the best sport ever, and baseball is second. Nethran 08-25-2008, 06:07 AM Football, then baseball, you're right. But American Football is pretty far down there. I don't like the stop and go pacing of it, and Rugby kicks its ass. Football, then baseball, you're right. But American Football is pretty far down there. What did I say, you have no opion, and what the **** is rugby? Probably some football ripoff.
First - Football
Second - Baseball
Third - Basketball
Fourth - Golf
Fifth through Twentieth - All those other sports that havent come to my mind because of their abnomality
Twenty-First - Soccer
And in between are all those Nethran 08-25-2008, 06:38 AM Football is the word given to a number of similar team sports (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_sport), all of which involve (to varying degrees) kicking a ball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball) with the foot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot) in an attempt to score a goal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goal_(sport)). The most popular of these sports world-wide is association football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football), also known as soccer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer) and most commonly just football. The English language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language) word "football" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_(word)) is also applied to gridiron football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gridiron_football) (which includes games like American football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) and Canadian football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_football)), Australian rules football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football), Gaelic football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaelic_football), rugby football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_football) (rugby league (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_league) and rugby union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_union)), and related games. Each of these codes (specific sets of rules, or the games defined by them) is referred to as "football".
American football, known in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) and Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada) simply as football,[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football#cite_note-0) is a competitive team sport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_sport) known for mixing strategy with physical play.
American football resulted from several major divergences from rugby football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_football), most notably the rule changes instituted by Walter Camp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Camp), considered the "Father of American Football". Among these important changes were the introduction of the line of scrimmage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_of_scrimmage) and of down-and-distance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_(football)) rules.
Football is soccer. American Football is American Football, and it came from rugby, not vice versa.
Thanks for playing. Maybe get your head outta yer butt and absorb some non-American culture, or just basically don't be quite so nationalistic as you are. It seems to be hampering your mental developement.
Oh, btw, football(soccer) is the most popular sport in the world whose world championship game, the World Cup, boasts an audience twice that of the Summer Olympic Games.
So, with that in mind, your list needs severe revision based on worldwide audience and passion for the game, though you are entitled to your own opinion. Just not your own facts.
Perhaps the thread should go back on topic now that you've been shut down. In Australia,
Football = AFL. The best ****ing sport ever to exist. Nethran 08-25-2008, 10:50 AM That's a variant of rugby, right? Nope. Completely different x)

Firstly, thanks for coming into the thread and making no constructive comments or responding in anyway to the questions asked.
But seeing as you did, I feel obliged to respond.
Football is the most popular sport in the world. The only reason I put soccer in brackets is because some American users may have had confusion about it.
But in every other country in the world it is called football.
Soccer is not football? rolleyes: Only Americans, for *** knows what reason decided to change the name of a game that has been around longer than American football. Besides, what you play in America I wouldn't even call football, the level is completely different.
Maybe that's why you went for the name soccer, an inferiority complex as you are no-where near the best nation at football???? My work here is done. No need to say thanks. And I'm out these threads, I think I did enough of pissing off people with my two discussions.
i come here at least once every two days and literally no new theads are created except for one or two lone d2 trading ones. i know plenty of quick witted smartasses frequent this board, there is absolutely no reason for it to be as dead as it is. the forums of old i used to whore at were actually fun because people actually made threads and posted. where are all the cool kids at? wake up and stir some shit around
For the sake of activity of older members, go ahead and stir up some shizz...just try not to make a mess and spill it over the top or the wolves will dine...we're watching. 8 years or so of starting point guard.
... Its safe to say that, Im the shit at basketball.
I love basketball. I think you mistook his comment. He wasn't talking about you. The difference is that you're an insultory, stubborn ass. It doesn't take a quick wit to do that. In fact, I think a slow wit often helps more. pepereina1 08-26-2008, 03:08 PM Anyone here ever seen a hurling match?? Its something else. Supposedly the second fastest sport after ice hockey... I play casual roller hockey for about 5 years and joined a team for a year. I wanna play ice so badly! | |
