how do i access the ladder on open battle net? and also how do i start a clan?

On open b.net I think it is the same way as closed... when you create a character, check the box 'Ladder Character'. (Unless there isn't a ladder on open). As for starting a clan, make a website, get members, get a bot, designate a clan channel, and keep a bot in your channel. ;-)
