This example here, I used the alien lookin brush i made here. changed the size of it to 80, it's no longer a stamp type brush, more of a dragging paint brush. Pulled it across the the page and you get this type of mark. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/tutttt2.jpg but if you go up to the top right corner of photoshop, you'll see this. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/tutttt1.jpg click the brush tab, and then dismount it from the top, just click and drag it down. so it's in a window form. IT kinda looks like the layer properties window. These are just all the settings of your brush, it's just a plain shity brush when it's small like this, only good for making tire tracks really :p but once you add some new properties to it, it's fun. I clicked on shape dynamics, and moved all the settings to around 50% except jitter roundness, i put that to 100% and drew another straight line across the tag and got this. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/tutttt3.jpg and then moved onto Scattering, messed with the settings there, drew a straight line, and got this http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/tutttt4.jpg then Dual brush, which is my favorite, cuz it gets more abstract to it. basically adding the brush you had now with the design of another brush. I made a scan line type brush awhile back and It's just a big thing with single pixel verticle lines going up it, simple and plain, but when set as the dual brush with this, then draw a straight line across, I get this. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/tutttt5.jpg makes a nice grungy brush. now, if you have a cool brush and you want to save it, just click the little arrow in the top right corner of the brush window, (this is why i had you dismount it so this arrow would show up) and click "new brush" name it and click ok. and you have a new brush :p this one sucks, but ya, just letting you know of this if you already didnt, so you'd have more to experiment with. btw: that black line across the screen was a straight line from pen tool I used to stroke the brush across so it would be perfectly straight (: just ignore it. This is usefull if you're into grunge :) afex 11-23-2004, 05:41 AM They are basically the same thing as making a brush, and I actually only use 2 diff ones, not much cool stuff you can do with patterns, or atleast ive not done much experimentings. here are the basic two: Scanlines: http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/scanlines.jpg square dots: http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/dots.jpg Scanlines- Make a new file, 1 pixel wide, 2 pixels high make sure its a transparent background. zoom far in and fill either the top or bottom pixel black [zoomed in 1600%] http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/s1.jpg Goto Edit > Define Pattern, and wala you have a scanline pattern. Dots- Keeping that last piece open, just goto Image > Canvas Size Set the change the width to 2 pixels, so its 2x2 and you should get this: http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/d1.jpg now Edit>Define Pattern. and you have the dot pattern. simple huh? To use them, when working the layer you want the pattern on, just right click the layer, open Blending options, toward the bottom is Pattern Overlay. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/p1.jpg or you could always just use the pattern stamp tool http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/p2.jpg top: where the tool is bottom: where to change pattern(at the top of the screen once the pattern tool is chosen) not much else to say, except be creative with them. Try to make your own patterns, make sure you have a transparent BG when you define pattern, otherwise the image your putting the pattern on wont show thru, you will just get a white and black pattern, and you dont want that. Also just mess around with diff pattern designs if you want, using brushes, fonts, ect for designs. The pattern is just a repeat of the small image you make, keep that in mind when making them. I personally dont use them often, and rarely find use for them, but maybe you might ^____^ so enjoy. example: http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/loki.gif Anyone interested in photomanipulation tutorials? Anferny 11-23-2004, 06:08 AM talk to Veck, he does it all the time EverLast 11-23-2004, 07:47 AM afex very nice and photo manipulation is vecks best attribute in ps :) afex 11-23-2004, 08:12 AM Firstly make sure you're familiar with layer modes. The option is a drop down menu at the top of the layer pallete, that says "normal" as a default. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/side3.jpg You can change that to blend the layer in different ways to the layer below it. It's _very_ usefull :) Starting out with this image of a woman. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip1.jpg Put the Cracked stock image over her where you want the cracks to be, set the layer mode to multiply before hand so you can see where you're putting them and also because it makes a good starting blend. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip2.jpg Now take a decent sized soft edge eraser brush, and erase out all the unwanted texture from the stock photo. Make sure the brush is small enough so the seft transparent edge of the brush isn't accidentally erasing the crack. You want to erase everything other than the crack and a little bit of texture outside of it for blending purposes. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip3.jpg Now combine this crack layer with the face layer by clicking the empty square next to the layer making the link icon appear like so. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/side1.jpg Once you have that, flatten the layers together by pressing Control + E. Now select all by pressing Control + A, copy (control +c). Now that you have it copied, Undo all your steps untill your layers back to how they were before you flattened them. Once they're seperated paste down that flattened copy you made. Now you should have a flattened layer. And under it the 2 layers you flattened to make it. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/side2.jpg I do this a lot through out the rest. Because I like having the original layers incase I need to go back, or resuse them, which I do a lot. So get familiar with this. Now duplicate the crack layer that you used and drag the duplicate up to the top of all the layers, and set it to Soft Light. Just to add more shadow and light to the crack areas. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip4.jpg Now do the whole flattening, copying, undoing, pasting thing again just like you did before. So you can keep these layers and have a seperate layer as the flattened effects. Now make a duplicate of that flattened layer, and greyscale it by pressing Control + U. and slide the Saturation bar to the left down to -100 and press ok. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip5.jpg afex 11-23-2004, 08:12 AM now set the layer mode of this greyscaled layer to Overylay. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip6.jpg Now do the whole flattening, copying, undoing, pasting thing again. (: Make a duplicate of the flattened layer, set the layer mode to Screen, and do a Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Set it to about 4.6 for now. and press ok. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip7.jpg now make a duplicate of that older Greyscaled version, and bring up a copy of that layer to the top of the layers, and set the layer mode to Overlay. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip8.jpg So far you've had 4 nice looks for a manip, you can go with whatever look you want. Trying different colors/filters and then using layer modes to blend them together. I sometimes end up with 30 layers I don't even use toward the end of a manipulation. Just random stuff I tried out. This here was random too, I just documented it as I Went. So just try this, if you're not much into experimenting. When you get familiar with it, try your own changes. Sometimes I like doing a sepia tone look but not exactly. For that, you make a copy of a flattened layer you have (one of the layers with nothing above it or below it effect it's appearance) and greyscale it. Then make a new layer above it. Fill that layer with a brown color of your choice, nothing too dark or light though. And try out different layer modes on that color layer to blend the color into the layer below it. I did it with this green color - 7D6939, and set the layer mode to overlay. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/manip9.jpg So have a blast :) afex 11-23-2004, 08:14 AM To start off with, this will basically be a lesson on the Patch Tool. Best way to cover up areas and keeping a nice blended together texture to it. Going to start with this image again, and we’re going to flatten out her nose here. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch1.jpg Once you get your image ready to work on select the Patch Tool from your tool bar. Either click the icon or press Shift + J http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/sided1.jpg Also look in the patch tool settings and make sure “source” is currently selected, because that’s what we’ll be using. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/sided2.jpg Now, the patch tool starts out just like the lasso tool, loosely drag it around whatever area you wish to remove and let go. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch2.jpg Selected the right nostral to remove first. Once you have it selected, move your cursor inside the selection. The icon will change, you can now click down and drag the selection to an area to fill that selection with. We want to fill that selection with empty skin texture so it gets removed. So, drag that selection to an empty skin texture somewhere on her face. The cheek would work fine for now. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch3.jpg As you can see that selection filled with the texture of the area you drug it to. You may not notice now but this is much better than the clone stamp or healing tool. It just a much better blending render for the edges. Right now the colors are just too different to blend that well. That will be fixed. For now select more of what you want to get rid of, like the bottom of her nose. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch4.jpg Drag that selection to another empty space on her cheek, and fill it with blank skin texture. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch5.jpg Make another selection. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch6.jpg afex 11-23-2004, 08:15 AM Drag it to open empty skin. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch7.jpg Make 1 more and you'll have cleaned out the main portion of the nose to start with. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch8.jpg Wala, it's gone. Now we need to fix the color and choppy blending of this, with more patch tool usage :D http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch9.jpg You need to select these areas 1 at a time and drag them to her forehead for brighter light, or the left side of her face. You need to get rid of all the seams where it’s dark to light skin so it’s smooth. Also Try to path up any dark spots you see after you get those ones. Keep patching out spots untill it's nice and smooth all around the same color and texture. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch10.jpg If you did that correctly, you should have something like this. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch11.jpg But now you understand how it works...hopefully. Make a selection then drag the selection to a spot where you want to fill that original spot up with. You go try to remove the lips now as well. select the whole right half of the lips then drag the selection up to the bright space. Then select the left half of the lips and do the same. I usually spend a good chunk of time correcting all the lighting problems from this but it’s not needed to make a nice look. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch12.jpg And now a few people asked me how to make realistic white eyes. Well this is how. Using the patch tool. Duplicate the layer first. Then get started on removing the blue ring of the eye. Select a little piece from the rim and drag it to the white of the eye. Select a bit more of the eye and drag it out. Keep dragging out little pieces untill you have the full color part of the eye removed. It should look good then. But after that I take the original image layer, the one I copied it from. and pull that layer above the pure white eye, and erase the color from the image I just put on top. So that the normal white of the edited one under it shows through. I do this so I can get back more of the original whiteness of the eye. So the texture is more realistic. After that I usually add a tiny bit of flesh color to it. We did that with the last tutorial. By making a new layer. Coloring a spot with a brownish color, then blending it down using layer modes. I do that for just the eye spot. It’s just one of many tricks you can pull off using the patch tool. I also use it after I finish putting in cracks on skin to blend the texture in better and have a more smooth transition in there. http://home.comcast.net/~lastat3/patch13.jpg get crackin. er smoothin o_O now someone point me in the direction of the forum I goto to beg for items :D A|fzZz 11-23-2004, 09:00 AM where did u get the cracks from? add me on msn...ive added u... afex 11-23-2004, 09:06 AM I took a photo of some dried mud under a huge semi behind fred myer (: it's in my stock photo account if you want to use it. http://suriastock.deviantart.com/ A|fzZz 11-23-2004, 09:22 AM how did u make the cracks? afex 11-23-2004, 08:03 PM what? o_O A|fzZz 11-24-2004, 03:50 AM how did u make the cracks on the person's face??? afex 11-24-2004, 05:47 AM That's what I just showed you with that tutorial o_O A|fzZz 11-25-2004, 02:24 AM Put the Cracked stock image over her u said image crack shit...how did u make it? afex 11-25-2004, 06:36 AM You put the image over the other image.... Same way you would put text over another image o_O Not really sure what you're trying to ask here. I didn't 'make' anything. The crack stock image, is a picture of cracked mud. I used a camera to take that photo and uploaded it onto my computer. Opened up photoshop, Had a picture of a girl on the first layer, and pasted in the Crack stock image as the second layer. At that time the crack stock is over the womans face. Maybe you could be more clear as to what the hell you're trying to ask. Full sentences maybe. A|fzZz 11-25-2004, 09:18 AM so the cracks cant be made...its from another image eh lol... afex 11-25-2004, 10:22 AM hence "crack STOCK IMAGE" o_O Karant 01-05-2005, 04:07 PM TUTORIALS LightWave3D:
