I'm surprisingly interested in SC2, I've never played any Blizzard game besides Diablo II, and I was just wondering if my computer could handle the specific requirements of SC2 as well as play it without *much* lag. I'm not sure exactly how to find out what graphics card I have but I know it's ancient.
If somebody could help tell me how to find out what kind of graphics card it would be much appreciated. I have windows XP with all of the updates, high-speed internet (ussually 50-100mbs), and 512RAM. Can somebody tell me what else I will have to consider if I'm going to buy SC2 when it eventually comes out.
Well the Graphics are alike with WarCraft3 if you can handle that im sure you will be fine with SC2

I've never played WC3. Could you tell me how to locate what graphics card I have and I'll post it to see if anyone knows if it will be good enough?

I'd imagine it would be along the lines of this for min requirements, although blizz havent officially released it.
Processor: 1.4 Ghz Processor
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics card: 128 MB RAM video card capable of Hardware TnL. DX10 is not required, but will be supported by SC2 and Blizzard are considering adding DX10 specific effects.
Pixel Shader 2.0 (Officially Confirmed)
OS: Windows Wista, Windows XP or Mac OS. (Officially Confirmed)

ok. thank god its for xp as well. i would have killed blizz if they made it vista only
Vista only would suck ass :(
but yeah Im positive if you can handle Frozen Throne you'll be good for SC2, i think =]

I dunno... they may look like WC3 on the surface, but I see a lot of little things that are well above and beyond WC3 technical complexity. Even if it's on the same engine (and I don't think it is), there's been 5 years of upgrades in the graphical department.
I think that a reasonable guess for minimum specs will be something like this:
CPU: 1.8 Ghz dual-core/2.0 Ghz single-core
RAM: 512 MB XP/768 MB Vista (or more - Vista runs basic apps poorly with less than a gig of RAM, much less games, and is really only perfectly stable and responsive at the 1.5 gig mark)
GPU (graphics): 128 MB DirectX 9.0c capable card with a decent clock speed
My guess at recommended settings is this:
CPU: 2.0 Ghz dual-core/2.4 Ghz single core
RAM: 1 GB XP/1.5 GB Vista
GPU: 256 MB DirectX 9.0c capable card (again, something with a decent clock speed)
On the up side, even if your computer doesn't quite match that, you can upgrade to a SC2-capable computer for pretty cheap these days. Do your research and venture onto Newegg.com. :)

I personally am not sure, but the above looks about right for a modern RTS. If D3 comes out first, (Both SC2 and D3 are release dates are TBA I think) it's system req's would be a good template.

Just found the official current system requirements (subject to change in the future):
StarCraftWire.net Minimum Specifications:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce FX 5500
Hard Disk Space: Undeterminable*
StarCraftWire.net Alternative Minimum Specifications:
CPU: Athlon XP 2500+
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9700
Hard Disk Space: Undeterminable*
Recommended specs would be:
StarCraftWire.net Recommended Specs:
CPU: Athlon X2 / Core 2 Duo
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics Card: Geforce 8600 GT
Hard Disk Space: 7 GB
So, looks like it's going to be a bit more intense than I had originally thought. Oh, and it's definitely not the WC3 engine, so system requirements for WC3 are irrelevant. These might be the Vista requirements - if so, XP would require a little less, but not much.
