Can anyone direct me towards a good trojan/virus scanner (free). I have recently downloaded the bad realm files from hallsofpain, and it wont let me delete the file i got from rapidshare, says its in use. I posted on hallsofpain and they assured me it wasnt foul play. I would rather be safe than sorry. Any suggestions?

if it wont let your delete it, chances are a virus scanner cant delete it either. you will have to find programs that forcibly delete the file. i dont know the exact name of any, not having to use them.

Kaspersky is one of my favorites but the bootleg keys keep getting blacklisted.

Well i did some googling and found a program call moveonboot. It sets it so it will delete a certain file apon starting the computer before anything else gets started. It removed the program, i just wanted to scan to see if it left anything behind.

Two virus scanners you should never try:
1) Norton
2) Kaspersky
Simply because you cannot get rid of them later.
Actually, I'd recommend you to buy an antivirus. I used AVG for quite a while, scanned my PC a few times, then decided that I'll try something else, just to be sure and got BitDefender (free for a month). My computer was full of viruses. I'm definately going to buy this one once the free trial finishes.
Also, my brother is using McAfee and he says that it is quite good, also the word on the street is that you can crack it and still keep getting all the virus defintion updates.

What do you mean you cannot get rid of them? I used to use both, and I got rid of Norton, simply because I thought it sucked, but you can get rid of them. I was currently using Kaspersky which is an excellent virus scanner, but unfortunately, they discovered my key :x
I remember when I had mcafee on a really old computer and thought it was horrible but I don't know now, so I can't really give any info on that.
Jotti's homepage (http://www.virusscan.jotti.org)
is a good site for scanning stuff quickly. helps alot
