is there any way that i can revert to patch 1.10 without re-installing diablo again?

Yup, there are patches around for that, use your good friend Google (http://www.google.com)

once i have the 1.11b patch installed, i cannot just install the 1.10 patch to get back to it, i believe i have tried that in the past

No shit, that's why there are user made 1.11 -> 1.10 patches around.

Here's what I believe you need to do....

1) Find and place the 1.09 game.exe into your directory, replacing the current game.exe (make sure you backup all of your files beforehand!).
2) Find the 1.10 installer, and run that, which will then upgrade you to the 1.10 patch.
