Well, since I often read thread made by people who wanna know something about dupehacks and stuff like that I decided to make this guide so people maybe stop asking about it. Also, this is a guide for new players how to not get scammed anyway.
!!! ATTENTION !!!
My intention was NOT to make you scam, although I explain scamming methods in this thread. I explain them so you can better understand it and protect you from getting scammed!
Btw, there may be many grammatical faults in this guide. Sorry about that ;)
Downloadable .exe files
Often, you see sites who offer e.g. a "working" dupe hack. First of all: These hacks are NOT working. Nobody would offer you a free working dupe hack. If you still think this site/file is trustable, go to http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and scan the file for viruses. In most of all cases there are keyloggers, trojans or AutoIt scripts in it which are going to make you lose your items.
Trades
In 1.10 and the starting of 1.11, there was a hack called "TradeScam". I'm not going to explain you how this hack works, but if you're interested in that, go to the download section and download it. Attention: If you plan scamming now, this hack doesn't work anymore since 1.11b was released. But still some people try to scam you with a method similar to the TradeScam method. E.g., they put an enigma archon plate in the trade screen. Then, they tell you some kind of shit like "Pls move your runes/offer so I can see it's no dupe.". Then, they start to move the enigma around as a "proof" that they don't offer you a duped enigma. While you're moving around your offer, the person switchs the enigma archon plate with e.g. a simple light plate. And boom, you got scammed. To avoid this, ALWAYS recheck the things you want to trade before hitting the check mark. I also fell for this method one time...
Droptrades
Don't drope trade. There are many ways to scam you if you want to trade a torch or anni. The first method I am going to explain the act 2 drophack. The person asks you to come to act 2 palace. There, you are asked to drop your offer inside of the palace. When the other person dropes the torch, you crash and boom you lost your offer. Sometimes, the person asks you to go to the bar. There, you are asked to drop your torch behind the chairs. The scammer can now easily pickup your torch through the wall. Another droptrade scam works with RGX Mod. With this mod, you can charge in town. So, if you dropped your torch, the other person just charges and picks it up very fast.
"Dupes"
I bet that all of you have ever saw games like "I teach dupe" or "I dupe free". In most of these games, you are asked to download some shit from very suspicious websites and run it. Mostly, these files are drophacks who use AutoIt scripts for example who drop your stuff if you open your inventory (I just found something like that today). Another method is the "body pop" method. The other person hostiles you and tells you to put all the items you want to dupe into your stash. Then, he tells you that he has to kill you exactly 16 times and that you mustn't pick up your dead bodies. After the 16th time, you are asked to re-equip all the items you want to dupe and let you get killed again. Then, all your items will drop out, because there can be a maximum body count of 16 from 1 person. That's why it's called "body pop", because your items simply "pop" out of your body.
Other methods
Some scammers whisper from a character with a name like "blizzard_support_iii". They tell you storys like battle.net has to update the server file bases or some crap like that and that you have to type "/dnd *accountname *password" so they can add your account data to the file base (this was just an example I made in my head). Then, they just whisper you again after they did and now they can see "*accountname does not want do be disturbed: *accountname *password".
This was my little guide about how to not getting scammed. I hope you liked it and feel free to add another tips how to protect yourself of scamming.
