If you are getting popups and stuff no matter which site you are on, you probably have spyware, not viruses. Use the link in my signature to get FireFox, it's a great browser. The Mob 05-15-2006, 11:02 PM it is great, that is my main browser, EXCEPT for one thing.. if you do alot of html coding.. that could be an issue. firefox for some odd reason has those issues. such as, viewing your sn color. get extensions.. and you will be able to kill everysingle ad/popup there is muhahaha hellsing293 05-16-2006, 01:44 AM i have no idea what html coding is so that's np. thx guys ^^ modulus 05-16-2006, 09:10 PM If you need to get rid of all the spyware (the pop-ups) from your computer, go and download Spybot Search & Destroy here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ It's free and it works VERY well, read the help files before using it. wm_hunter 05-17-2006, 12:17 AM Very good reply Modulus. +rep for you. Looking back I don't know why I didn't link him to Ad+Spy The best way to deal with spyware is a combo of SpyBot (link above), and AdAware SE (http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/). Both are free, and they each catch what the other misses quite well. Tap 05-17-2006, 04:56 AM Very good reply Modulus. +rep for you. do you give everyone who gives out common information a +rep? And also id like to add. Firefox has some great extensions. However i would advise you not to install too many extensions because some end up having conflicts with others, This is based on my own experience ofcourse where i basically installed every extension i saw wm_hunter 05-17-2006, 05:02 AM I have +reped two people since I have become a vet. I think that someone that helped such as him and only had the original 10 rep is worth a + rep. Extensions I suggest are AdBlock (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/10/) - Block and filter ads on websites. really usefull FasterFox (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/) - Speed up FireFox Samwise 05-17-2006, 05:17 AM i have fire fox and it blocks all my popups but it also blocks downloads good thing is i can alow downloads and not popups. hellsing293 05-20-2006, 03:16 PM Originally posted by modulus If you need to get rid of all the spyware (the pop-ups) from your computer, go and download Spybot Search & Destroy here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ It's free and it works VERY well, read the help files before using it. would this work better than microsoft antispyware beta1 because that's what i'm using right now. also, would firefox block pop-ups when its not opened because i get tons of pop-ups when i don't even have ie up(on cox internet so always online). also i never heard about extensions before but from what i gather in your posts their like "add-ons" to the originally firefox? L4E 05-20-2006, 03:23 PM spybot s&d is considered the best anti-spyware/adware program by many many many computer experts. Its very thorough in its search and will rarely miss anything hellsing293 05-20-2006, 03:32 PM so the you're saying its better than microsoft antispyware? and also, can i run both at the same time without any problems? wm_hunter 05-20-2006, 05:50 PM would this work better than microsoft antispyware beta1 because that's what i'm using right now. also, would firefox block pop-ups when its not opened because i get tons of pop-ups when i don't even have ie up(on cox internet so always online). also i never heard about extensions before but from what i gather in your posts their like "add-ons" to the originally firefox? Spybot with AdAware is better. Spybot is better then AdAware, but for the few things that SpyBot misses, AdAware finds. Windows Defender (or Windows Antispyware, Defender is its new name) is in the top five of the free AntiSpyware market, but not quite as good. In my opinion, Webroot SpySweeper is the best single AntiSpyware program, but it costs $ Lux Aeterna 05-20-2006, 08:03 PM I have NOjavascript enabled, (it's a plugin) plus firefox's built in popup blocker. I get none, what-so-ever, and that means none, where ever I go =] wm_hunter 05-20-2006, 08:23 PM I have NOjavascript enabled, (it's a plugin) plus firefox's built in popup blocker. I get none, what-so-ever, and that means none, where ever I go =] Would that be NoScript that you use? I didn't suggest it because for people that are not great on computers it can just frustrate them. If it's not NoScript, I suggest that you get it. Blocks all scripts unless you say that it is ok (not just Java) Lux Aeterna 05-20-2006, 08:45 PM It's NoScript, yes, and it's simple if you know how to right click.... hellsing293 05-21-2006, 03:19 PM ok i got fire fox:D but when i download the extensions it says "cannot locate program to load this" or something like that. does it still work? *also i heard of this happening to people but wtf glow username doesn't work anymore.* Dan 05-21-2006, 09:10 PM glowing usernames are still there, but you cant see them while using firefox hellsing293 05-23-2006, 01:14 AM yes that's what i meant doesn't work anymore for firefox. but yeah thx guys firefox is much better than ie. lot less pop-ups(thought i still get some). |
