dells are overpriced peices of junk first of all,
try going with this build
Cheap Case 40$
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Motherboard 155$
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Processor 200$
Nvidia FX series (any one will do for the price range) (5200 are cheapest) 80-200+$
512mb DDR400 RAM 90-120$
just use any keyboards monitor and speakers you might have.
otherwise buy them
It's a decent build for the price

Pentium 4's are slower and you can't overclock them. Also AMD processors are labeled by a number instead of its frequency. The number stands for how it performs against pentium. for example: The AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 400FSB processor runs at about 2.20GHz but in test it performed faster and more efficient than the Pentium 4 3.0 GHz. Trust me if your a gamer go with AMD. If you want a computer to surf the web and do homework on get pentium.
Edit:BTW the build i mentioned before supports all the new-age games like doom 3, Counter-Strike: Source, and Half-Life 2. I have one with that build and its most definetly worth it for the price

I was thinking about getting the same stuff (the mobo, proc chip, maybe a case, etc.) Will run me about $350-$400 and I still have to get approval =(
