He's basically a douchebag. He realizes that as a normal person he's boring and ugly, so he takes his ugliness to the extreme in order to not be boring, at least in his head, when in reality he's still the same boring douche, although now he's 5x as ugly. Also now he won't get a job, way to go shithead. Although I suppose anyone stupid enough to do that in the first place isn't going to get a job regardless.

Another possibility is he just didn't get attention while younger and is now willing to do anything to get attention, except he realizes he has no talents to attract such attention he took the 'bad publicity is still publicity' route and just turned him self into, once again, a total douchebag. Now he gets people to at least 'look' at him on the streets. Congratulations, douchebag.
