I recently had a disk that went from NTFS to RAW for an unknown reason.....i found a neat little open source program though that was amazing. This program is called TestDisk and can be found here:

I used this and was able to see all the files on that drive...i was able to rewrite the MBR and the MFT. I was able to recover everything on this 120 gig drive that windows pretty much found completely useless without formatting it. I recommend this program to anyone that has disk problems. It is one of the greatest disk recovery utilities i have every scene or used, and being a computer consultant for the last 8 years, it is a tool that could have helped in many situations that i wish i had back then. It is amazing and i dont think i am ever going to have to use another disk recovery utility other then this again.
