I have modded Diablo 2, as have many people on these forums. Yet we're still able to form legible, coherent posts.

If you're too retarded to follow a simple tutorial, and the ones on PhrozenKeep couldn't possibly hold your hand more, then there really isn't anything we can do for you.

Paint Shop Pro is on version 10, if you're using 5, you might want to update it. Gimp works well, and if you have DC6Creator you just import your graphics from pretty much whatever format you choose.

You'd have to provide more information for us to figure out what went wrong with your map edit, and honestly I'm not too inclined to help. Again, the people at PhrozenKeep might have more patience with you, try there.
